ACTOR
Jani discovered her love for performing at age 7 during a creative movement class. For years she secretly devoured Red Skelton and Dick Van Dyke re-runs until in grade 7, she graduated to a lead role playing Snow White. A passion for studying various disciplines brought her in contact with some of the worlds best instructors including, David Smukler (voice/text), Patsy Rodenburg (voice), Bill Vincent (singing), Yoshi Oida (acting), and Cathy Kennedy McKinnon (Shakespeare).

Jani is a nine time Dora Mavor Moore Award nominated actress and has enjoyed such theatre roles as,
Cordelia/Fool in the all Aboriginal production of King Lear, Shylock in The Merchant of Venice, White Girl in the world premier of Almighty Voice and his Wife, Yvette in Mother Courage and The Neighbor in Blood Wedding. Film/TV credits include Ruby and the Well, Six days to Die, Something Undone, Saving Hope, A Windigo Tale and Conspiracy of Silence

DIRECTOR
Jani Lauzon began directing when she was an artist educator at Claude Watson School for the Arts Junior Campus in the mid 1980's. Her first professional production was Waiora for the Centre for Indigenous Theatre in 2002. From there she has helmed numerous productions including: Alien Creature (TPM), The Monument (Factory Theatre), Rope (The Shaw Festival), Almighty Voice and his Wife and Where the Blood Mixes (Soulpepper Theatre) and 1939 (Stratford Festival)

PLAYWRIGHT
As Co-Managing Artistic Director of Turtle Gals Performance Ensemble she was "joint author" of 3 plays: The Scrubbing Project, The Triple Truth and The Only Good Indian. Her company,
Paper Canoe Projects, was created to support the development and creation of her original work including: A Side of Dreams, I Call myself Princess and Prophecy Fog. She also co-wrote 1939 with Kaitlyn Riordan.
